RE: Step parts replacement

Go over the coast range to kwikee, I believe they are in Cottage Grove, OR. You can get the mechanism through most NTP parts retailers. Kwikee products is not in Cottage Grove Oregon any more. They have moved to Mishawaka Indiana in january of this year.

RE: Battery for engine dead a lot

After my rig sat month and half I noticed the kwikee steps start out and stall. and then start back and stall, they operate off the F-53 chassis battery on my rig! If your steps move when you open or close the door you've left the switch for the steps "ON". This will kill the battery all by itself. The steps draw current all the time if the switch is on. Period. This is not true the only time the step uses power is if it is moving in or out if the step is out and locked out it is no longer drawing any power unless the control unit is defective.

RE: Fuel prices (what the heck?????)

Would some one explain this. Wensday I watched a tanker fill up a station gas at 3.59. That gas is in the tanks paid for. Friday the price jumps to 3.89. He cannot claim it is because of a shortage of gas to him. He already has full tanks. So how is it legal to jump the price up. Because he has to make enough money to pay for the next shipment of gas. If he sold it for a lower price were would the money come from to buy the next shipment when cost him more a gallon.

RE: Kwikee electric steps

Kwikee used both GM and Ford motors depending on the model and year Mostly it's Ford/Lincoln, but they do have a few GM/Delco out there The advice to take the motor WITH YOU to the NAPA store was excellent. They also used seimens motor, and AM Equipment made in Korea 2 different sizes of that motor and now the new ones are made in China.

RE: Kwikee electric steps

I understand this is a power window motor from a Lincoln or Mercury! Don't know what year! Maybe the year the coach was built? His is a 00 model it should use that mercury power window motor if his step is the that came with it. They have used 5 different power window motors on the steps since 1999 till now. They don't all use the same motor.

RE: Kwikee electric steps

The clicking noise you hear may be a stripped gear in the power window motor. Or the gearbox. But i would think it was the power window motor.

RE: Fuse Location On Kwikee Steps

It sounds like your control unit is bad. Not a fuse.

RE: Help with Kwikee Jacks!!

Ok...here are my findings. I think there are 2 problems here. Kwickee sent me a new control module and it solved my problem but I have the old module and it will work in a pinch. It appears that when the coach is sitting and the chassis battery gets low the control module on the jacks freaks out and does this goofy sequence. If you disconnect the module and leave it disconnected for 30 minutes the board completely drains and resets. If you then reconnect the control board the problem will be resolved until the next time the battery goes low. The new board does not seem to have the same sensitivity. Before you take the coach in try what i said and see if it works. Then charge your chassis battery by running the engine for a while. I would bet that your battery is low and causing the board to wig out. Jonny That because your new one is more than likely made in china. Look under the touch pad they will be different.

RE: Help with Kwikee Jacks!!

My guess would be that your level sensor is bad. Also your control may be bad to. If you take the touch pad off the control there is a blade fuse on the board under it check to see if it is blown.

RE: Step Problem

I just finished trouble shooting and repairing the Kwikee steps on my diplomat. When the step extends the linkage goes over center to hold the step firmly. The motor needs some level of power to over come this in order to retract. I disassembled the gear box on mine and liberally lubricated it with lithium grease and reassembled, works perfectly. The less friction in any of the mechanizim the better job the motor is able to perform. I understand that Kwikee upgraded tghese with a more powerful motor. I have also heard that the power is a Ford power window motor, much cheaper than the Kwikee label. Hope this helps. Allen They just don't all use a ford power window motor! They have use 5 different power window motors since 1999 to present and at least 6 or more different control units. They are not all just the same.

RE: kwikee electric steps

I'm surprised at the treatment you received from Kwikee, they have always been very helpful to me,including sending me parts at no charge. On one ocassion when the paint started to peal off on a step I called them to ask if I could order some paint from them and they said the paint shouldn't do that and sent me a complete step. Maybe you should call them back and ask to speak to a supervisor and it wouldn't hurt to mention that you got the suggestion from RV.net Forum. I put them right up their with Fantastic Fan in customer service. Up until about A year ago I would agree with you. Kwikee is now part of Actuant Corp. who also owns Power Gear. Dennis Kwikee has been part of Actuant Corp for 5 years they just moved the company from Oregon to Indiana this year. Actuant bought Kwikee in 2003. They are trying to run it like the big three. Go to a dealer not them. Do you call GM or Ford when you truck don't work or do you go to the dealer. Since Actuant bought Kwikee products it is no longer a mom and pop business like it use to be and it will not be like that again.

RE: RV industry needs to be redifined

There have been several (maybe many) on this forum over the years who have spoken openly and honestly about the WW situation and how if they didn't address their quality and customer service issues, it would ultimately doom the company. Yes, there were some who seemed happy to see WW suffer and go out of business. I'm not one of them. However, the business facts and writing were all over the proverbial wall. Many WW owners spurned and tried to hush those who spoke the truth about this issue over the last several months. This is not just a WW problem. The RV industry for the most part builds shoddy stuff and then doesn't support it very well after the fact. We as customers need to demnad more. We should form an RV user association with some teeth to provide feedback that will only be ignored at the peril of the RV manufacturers. Other industries have proven over and over again that quality can be designed in to the product at lower and lower costs. New materials and lean manufacturing processes will work. The RV manufacturers who figure this out will eventually be king in this industry -- IF they will listen and involve the customer voice in the process of redefining who they are. Even the ones that use lean manufacturing don't listen i know this for a fact!

RE: gas is cheap

If you have a Kwikee step, take the motor off and take it to an AutoZone. It's the same motor as used by some car windows. Awhile back there was a great thread on replacing the motor yourself. Here's the link to it. Link They are not all the same over the years Kwikee has changed the motor and control units. At least since 1999 to present they have used 5 different motors.

RE: Electric stairs stopped working

If you have a "Battery Control Center" the fuses may be there However one problem I've had with my Kwikee steps appears to be a dead spot on the cheap ford window motor they used on them.. Tapping motor with a hammer (Not too hard, you do not wish to smash it) helps. NOTE be out of the way when the state of the door switch changes Another problem many people have reported is problems with the door switch. You think that the cheap ford window motor is bad? Since 2005 they have been using a Korean brand motor and soon to be a made in china one.
